Fantastic Beasts Veterinary Services

As a clinic we believe that all animals deserve basic healthcare. Everything we do aims to increase veterinary accessibility for all animals regardless of ownership status, financial barriers, or geographical restrictions.

If not us, then who and when?

Non-Profit Projects

Our clinic aims to increase veterinary accessibility on Vancouver Island thereby improving the health of our animal and human communities through a "One Health, One Welfare" approach.

Access to Veterinary Care (AVC):

The barriers reducing veterinary accessibility are numerous. Many sources now consider lack of accessible care to be the number one animal welfare issue facing North American society.

Our organization focuses on two main barriers to accessing care:

  • 1. Lack of traditional ownership

ie- feral, stray, or community-owned animals, as well as those under the care of animal rescue                              organizations

  • 2. Financial limitations

ie- animals belonging to those experiencing financial hardship or homelessness

Anyone interested in learning more about the topic of Access to Veterinary Care should visit the ASPCA website for further information and resources.

Rescue Organization Services

Our clinic was specifically created to work with local animal rescue organizations.

We have a small treatment and surgery area within our larger hospital that was built for this purpose.  This space has been rented by our sister non-profit, "Island Rescue Veterinary Services and Society" (IRVSS), since June 2023.  As of February 2024, IRVS has taken a pause for restructuring, and Fantastic Beasts has taken over this work directly on a not-for-profit basis. â€‹

Our Partner Organizations

Since the start, we have been working with local non-profit animal organizations to provide spay/neuter and vaccination services, as well as dentistry and urgent care as needed.

We do not directly facilitate adoptions, rather our purpose is to help organizations with their behind the scenes veterinary needs. If you are searching for an adoptable furry friend, please visit our rescue partners directly.

Pawsitive Care Parksville

No Cost Appointments

Once every month we offer a day of no-cost appointments for those who qualify. â€‹

These appointments include a full physical exam and "core" preventive care treatments such as:

  • Vaccines

  • Internal and external parasite control

  • Micorchips

  • Nail trims

PLEASE NOTE - Due to overwhelming demand and limited resources, we have closed our Pawsitive Care applications for 2024.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter

We believe that spaying and neutering companion animals is one of the biggest ways we can help reduce over-crowding in shelters, reduce spread of communicable diseases in communities, and ensure long, healthy lives in our individual pets.

If you are having difficulty arranging for a spay/neuter due to financial constraints, please contact us today! Our low-cost programs aim to make this service accessible for all pet owners. â€‹

How to get involved with your local Animal Rescue/Welfare Community

"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future"

If you are looking to make a difference in your local animal community today, here are some ideas for how to get involved:

  1. Spay and Neuter your pets!

  2. Volunteer for one of our local rescue partners

  3. Learn about AVC and educate those around you

  4. Donate and/or sponsor local projects

We strongly believe that if we are not part of the solution, we are part of the problem. Don't delay - act today!
